Mystery Parts?

Working to get at the leaking rear axle seals on my '51 SC, I've quickly come to a mirror-matching pair of Mystery Parts: castings with part nos. 622141-R1 and 622142-R1 attached by a single bolt apiece to the left and right brake housings, respectively. They seem to serve no immediately useful purpose. But, arguably, neither do I. So I know how far aside to set them, can somebody tell me what they might be for? Thanks.
