Ryan, I have no idea what that yoke could be. A picture might help. The main concern that I have is the very limited clearance between the bull gears and the bottom of the case and the fact that if any hardened steel (like a gear tooth) gets between the tight clearances and goes through the gears something has to give. It might cost you a case or more gears or you may get lucky and the broken pieces will settle in the middle of the rear end. At this point you have no idea what additional damage may have occured. If you have a lifting device the top cover isn't that hard to get off. Then you can drain the rear end lube and find out what is going on for sure. Nothing too difficult in that rear end for dissassembly/assembly. Repair isn't difficult, but may be costly depending on what all needs repairing.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
