I was planning a single-axle unit using a 3500# axle but got a bargain price on two 2500# torsion axles ($75 each with hubs, brand new) so decided to go tandem for a 5000# total GVWR (and I like the looks of a tandem setup to boot). I know I will have to spend more on tires & maintainence since I have 4 instead of 2.
