I just rebuilt a D-239 that would hiss out the breather for about a minute after shutting it down. Although the engine was tired and had a lot of blow-by, the hissing problem was caused from a clogged breather element. Check your element or elements to see if they are clogged or disintigrated. My book is showing a single element just behind the 2 bolt breather pipe(part #369442R1), or it was replaced with 2 breather elements stuffed insided the push rod cover(part #315849R1).
