The dampening effect of your foot can reduce the shimmy even if part of the problem is in the tierod ends, your foot actually presses on the fat end of the rear tierod ball joint. I would feel for looseness in the right spindle bushings, the tierod ends, and the box its self. Jack up the axle just enough to clear the ground, and have someone shake the wheel left and right while you check for looseness, by feel, and eye.If much of the play is in the steering box, rebushing the box may be the only solution, (parts are hard to find, even good used parts). Bushings can be manufactured by a good machine shop. Repair easiest components first.
