Hydraulic Pump on M Belt-Pulley Shaft?

Presently, the hydraulic pump for my M front loader is on the PTO shaft. I would like to use the PTO for mowing hay and such. The problem comes when I think of travelling from the barn to the mowing site. I don't want the mower running the whole time, and yet I do need my hydraulics. I was thinking of welding a PTO shaft to a flat plate, and bolting the plate to the pulley mount. Then, I could hang my existing hydraulic pump to the new PTO shaft. Would this be a workable setup? or would I just mess up my belt drive system and be right back where I am now?
