I heard the rope trick was an old aircraft mechanics trick. Make sure it is on the compression stroke or you might bend a valve. Also use plenty of rope. You want the crank about 1/4 turn BTDC. Tried it on a Chevy. It worked and then I did something and forgot it was in there, hit the starter and it started and cracked the block and had water funning out the tailpipe. Heck of a way to finish a Friday night. Make sure you don't do something stupid like I did. Cost more than having someone else work on it.
