The shaft that comes out of the gearbox has raised spines so you can move the drive shaft down toward the gearbox to unhook the top U-joint. On the early 46T, this is were you timed the needles so made sure you index the shaft and U-joint so that when you go back together you will not change any of the timing. Also make sure that you index the top shaft to the bottom shaft because changing the timing.
