Ryan, If you are working on the M that I gave to you it had a mag on it that did work. If for some reason you or someone has run a "HOT" wire to it you have fried the mag. A mag generates it's own spark, and does not need any outside power source going to it. There is only one wire on the mag (not plug wires) that should have run from the mag to the on/off switch. It's purpose is to ground out the mag to shut off the tractor. I may have another mag, not sure. You could always take the distrubtor system off of the 300 or the parts H that your grandfather has and use it, if you want to. If you do this to your M, set #1 cyl on top dead center on your tractor before you take off the mag system. Then you can retime it without any problems.
