Question - Power Sonic Battery

I bought a new deepcycle battery formy small motorhome....I have hade it for about a month, so I decided to put a charge on it as I will be going to the Red Power Show this week......well let me tell you...I connected the pos. clip on and when I went to connect the NEG. the fire flew like no get out.......The battery is not yet connected to anything and the charger was right.....the leads was right.....I am afraid of it! ! ! What do you think ? its a :Power Sonic...model PS-121100 B...12v 110AMP...380 watts per cell...cost $117.....Don
