Steve in AZ has the answer, Heated up engines run better and produce more power from the correct mix of fuel. Cold engines (with carbs) don't vaporize the fuel well, and the internal combuston exposed parts quench the combustion flame increasing HC emissions dramatically. (a cold charge of air if fuel injected with stochiometric amounts of fuel will however be more dense, and make more power), not mor efficiency)
