OK Guys I need some advice about rear tire sizes that wouuld be alright or look OK on a 1946 Farmall AV. I need to replace the rear tires on a AV that my son and myself have been working on. It had 9" X 36" tires on it. They were dry rotten so I removed and trashed them. The rims on the tractor are 7 1/2" wide. I have cleaned the rims good, primed, and re-painted them.

A friend gave me a set of real good 36" tires with about 95% tread left and no weather cracking at all. On the side wall it reads 11" wide on a 10" rim or 12" wide on a 11" rim. What do you guys think about mounting them on the 7 1/2" rims that I have and use them. I do not plan to work this tractor. I just want to take it to a couple of shows or parades in my area with my son.

At this time I am on a real tight budget, due to the health conditions of my wife and son. Both have had major problems this year and money is real tight at this time. My son wants me to get it going for him ASAP.

So what wouild you guys do? Use the ones that were given to me, or wait until I can spare the $650.00 for new 9.5" X 36" tires and tubes.

Thanks

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
