If the screen can be rounded out again, you might try soldering the crack. I think the originals were made of brass, which if cleaned well, can be successfully soldered. If you are taking the lines completely off, I'd just use gas & see what comes out. If they really look bad[ a lot of crud], then you may have to pull something through.
