Have a WD-6, same engine as the MD. That wire goes to a set of contacts in the manifold to ground the magneto so you don't have spark in the diesel position. Can't just ground out a distributor as you'll fry the ignition coil. I suppose you could come up with a relay arrangement to disconnect the battery from the ignition coil when that contact is grounded. Seems to me that its more trouble than its worth, unless you already have a distributor that fits & are trying to avoid magneto repairs. Keith
