In plain english, the wire goes to a kill switch inside the manifold that is flipped when you switch the tractor over to run on diesel. The wire is supposed to be there, and it has a purpose.

Also keep in mind that you need a special diesel distributor, if you go that route. The mag and distributor run backwards on a diesel, and all you'll do is break a regular one.

Get a good starter battery on there and check for spark while cranking it over. (You can't check for spark while towing the tractor.)
