I am rebuilding a 1929 Regular and am finding old very thin paper gaskets everywhere. Should I replace them with new paper gaskets, or can I use RTV silicon without a gasket? Using RTV will make it easier to reassemble without having to cut custom gaskets for the tranny, rear end, drop boxes, and some engine stuff. Of course, the head gasket and manifold gasket will have to be used in their original form. If I go with another gasket, what material would be best, and would the thickness be critical? On my F-20 I used something that was made from vegetable fiber. They said it is good for gas, oil & moderately high temperature.
