Robb, The other possibilities are: 1) a belly mower such as a Woods or a Continental Belton. They are easier to handle in a tight spot and you can back them up easier than a pull type. They are a lot more expensive, though. 2) A sicle bar mower. These come in pull behind, rear mounted and belly mounted. They are a lot slower than rotaries, but if you're cutting hay they are almost necessary. They are probably in the middle cost wise and can be a bear to maintain. They can jam a lot if there are a lot of woody plants in your pasture. It's pretty hard to bead a "drag shredder" as we call the pull behind rotary mowers/brush hogs down here in Texas. The main drawback is the tires can be a real hassle if your pasture has a crop of Honey Locust like mine does. Even the little thorns look like 10 penny finish nails. Phil Hope this helps
