Very interesting question. I"m not sure what the U bolt is even for. I had problems with my front axel about 30 years ago and couldn"t get it off so I cut it off with a torch. Never did replace it and don"t miss it. I do use it on level ground though, although I"ve used it to help clear a few acres of new ground by pulling trees and such in piles to burn. But it is mostly a small garden tractor. If I needed one, I would also build it rather than buy it.
