Properly working gas tractor = approx 9 horsepower hours / gallon.

Properly working naturally aspirated diesel tractor = approx 12 hp-hrs/gal.

Properly working turbo diesel tractor = approx 15 hp-hrs/gal.

These numbers are averaged from Nebraska Tests.

An allowance must be made for idling. Assumming no idling time, you must have produced about an average 18 hp during that hour.

656 diesel pulling 12 foot disk = 48 hp = 4 U.S. gallons / hour.
