Can't see in the picture how you have the plug wired so I'll just tell you how it should be and also the reason why it maybe getting hot. Its most likely that its getting hot when your chargeing it because you have the #1 and #2 terminals wire backwards and you are keep the excite part of the alternator hot/voltage to it all the time. Now heres how it should be wired and you also need a doide or lite or you will have other problem. The #1 terminal goes to the ignition switch the side that is off when the switch is off. The #2 terminal goes to the big lug on the alternator. Now if its wired that way and you don't have a lite blub or doide in the wire going to the switch you will not be able to turn the engine off because the alternator will back feed the ignition

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
