MD engine in a 400D tractor?

I have a 400 diesel row crop tractor that I would like to fix up. The engine is stuck and I understand that the engine parts for one of these diesels are hard to find and expensive compared to a gasser. I have a friend who has offered to sell me a MD parts donor with a decent engine. My question is will the MD engine fit and work properly with no modifications? Ive even considered looking for a 400 gas engine and hood and installing it or would that be more modifications? Thanks for the help folks!
