First, bring #1 cylinder up onto compression, and set to top dead center. Make sure the rotor on the magneto is pointing at the #1 spark plug terminal. Set the timing such that the impulse trips a little bit AFTER top dead center - if you set it to trip too soon, it'll kick backwards when you crank it. You make find adjustments in the timing by aligning the bolt holes in the coupler - they're spaced a little bit different on the two pieces so that the some pair will aling with small changes in the relative position. Running timing is set by rotating the cover on the end of the magneto (with the arm attached). Keith
