I had the same problem in July of 2006(Utah). Reading this post let me know how to approach the problem by removing the shift lever pin, removing the shift lever, and aligning the sliders. Thanks for the info, it saved a lot of work. Removing the top of this transmission is a nightmare due to some casting being too close to bolts. It wasn't mentioned that the pin is held in place by a kind of soft plug similar to those in engine water jackets that are against a shoulder. Use a punch about half(or smaller) the diameter of the plugs and keep it centered while driving the pin and opposite plug out. When the pin emerges, it can be pulled out by grasping it with fingers. The pierced plug can be re-flattened, if not completely punched, and re-used(or get new ones). Looking down into the 3 sliders, they appear to each have a square notch. Just line the notches up and reassemble the shifter.
