Kopeck: I wouldn't use too much in the way of pulling devices, that Farmall A axle is not heavy like the big ones. You can break the spindle housing off at the top end.

Go with heat, it may take 2 acetylene torches. A friend and I heated one until the outside tube was completely red. We hung it from the ceiling, heated half the tube and used a 6x6 softwood block and 4 lb. hammer for tapping on spindle housing. We were sure we destroyed the center tube with that much heat, however it was toast anyhow. Owner said either we fix it or he was off to the scrap yard.

After we got it apart, we sanded and painted the telescoping tubes with graphite. That was close to 14 years ago and the tractor is still going and being used commercially with cultivators and side dresser. After you get the tubes apart, let the parts cool in the air as opposed to water.
