A properly charged battery with a alternator will show nothing on the amp meter when running. The voltage control is so precise that the battery usually stays near perfect charge. Using lights will not change this at all because the lights are drawing power before the amp meter.

Here is how to check. If you place a volt meter across the battery terminals +to+ -to- and run the tractor, it should read 14.4 to 14.6 volts that is good. If it reads 12.5 to 12.8 volts (or less) it is not charging. John T trouble shooting in the archives is a great place to start. as are Bob M wiring diagrams. Good luck JimN
