The 6242DU is a casting number, and has nothing to do with the serial number.

6-16-0 might be a casting date. Is it cast into the block? If so, it would mean that the block was cast on June 16 1945. "0" is the IH code for 1945.

The engine serial number is stamped on a raised boss ,below #1 cylinder, kind of behind the magneto. It can give an indication of the year of the tractor too. Unless you have a tractor that was assembled from parts of two or more tractors, then it could be anything.
