Tractor Mentor?

I'm thinking about diving into my first restoration project. I have zero mechanical experience with engines or anything, but I'm a smart cookie, and I'm sure I can learn quickly. But I was hoping for some guidance from someone close to me who could answer questions, and come by to smack me in the head when I goof something up.
Is there a network of restoration tractor folks? Some in Central California?
