I agree with you completely except I use inline fuel filters on all my tractors. An M under heavy load will get plenty of gas through an automotive type filter. His must have been plugged up. It really keeps sediment and trash out of the carburetor. It seems most of my sediments bowls are missing the screen and the inline filter replaces that.
