Easiest way I know to tell the large prongs from the small prongs is to measure the height of the prong where the little block is welded on the bottom side of the prong. The small prong height is 2 1/2" and the large prong height is 3".
As the earlier post stated, the prong spacing is the same for either one. If you`re looking for a fast hitch mower, this shouldn`t be an issue anyways because all fast hitch mowers came with small prongs. If you had a FH tractor that used large prongs, you had to buy the 1/2" thick filler plates from IH if you already didn`t have them for a different FH implement. All they are is a chunk of steel 1/2" thick by 1" wide by I think around 12" long with a roll pin in one end so it didn`t slide out of the socket when hitching.
