Two possible events. The bushings in the mag may be worn enough to cause wide cam angle variation. If this occurs the shaft will have visible movement up and down, or toward the block and away. If any detectable movement is there it is too much (see Farmall magneto dot com) AKA Magman. Another possible is a bad cap, causing the spark to be mis directed in the terminal areas of the cap. Bad plug wires and loose connections can make it worse. If your plug wires are carbon core "wires" throw them in the dumpster (one at a time to keep the order correct) replace them with Belden, or other brand magnetic suppression wires. these have a fiber core surrounded by a winding of copper wire that suppresses static, but gives no resistance. (they work well, and keep neighbors and family happy) Carbon tracks and cracks are usually visible on the inside (or outside) of the cap when the cap is bad. Good luck, JimN
