Joe: I can't agree with the idea that 6 volt batteries are only good for two years I've been running 6 volt batteries neigh outo 50 years. Back in the 1970s, I probably had as many 8 of them one the go at any given time. I don't ever remember getting less than 5 or 6 years out of a 6 volt battery. I would put the average at about 7 years. In fact I just removed one from my Farmall Super A, after 13 years of service. I do live in a cold climate. I do agree, with most of the others, batteries need activity. Even in the off season, I always start my tractors at least once a month, and let them run for an hour. That doesn't matter whether 6 volt or 12, gas or diesel. I usually don't run more than one or two tractors all winter, never have even when I had 9 of them.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
