Bob: Folks like to blame beginning of the downfall of IH on the 460-560 failures, however it started a few years before that. In total there were only 100,000 460 and 560 built, probably affected 90,000 farmers worldwide. A mere pitance when you count the total number of farmers. Three items truly started the downfall of IH; 1st they flogged fast hitch for 10 years and Harry Ferguson had won the hitch war before IH sold their first fast hitch in early 50s, 2nd Live PTO was far too long coming. 3rd before they sold the first TA they should have made it IDIOT proof. Those 3 items my friend affected millions of customers world wide. In the mid 1950s IH customers were moving to other companies in droves. They never did return.
