From my point of remembering a traditional flathead with valves both on the same side in the block was an L head. A T-head was found on david bradley garden walk behind units and had exhaust on one side, in block, and intake on the other side in the block(more or less cross flow) An F head was found on Willis Overland jeeps etc and had exhaust in the block, and intake in the head Kind of a cross flow, but nor flow rated for power!! An I head was valves in a straight line in the head C-H-M etc A Hemi (by chrysrle's def.) is a two valve head with a hemispherical combustion chamber and cross flow (intake ports on one side of head, exhaust on the other) A hemi can also be a Porcupine head with 3,4,or more valves splayed around to max the surface area (also cross flow) Pent roof combustion chamber= 4 valves and a two sided roof shaped chamber with t valves in each flat (earlie fifties offenhouser, and many cars today. There are wierd units like a knight slide valve, and other configurations too neumerous to mention. JimN
