Super A misses

My recently restored Super A has begun to miss. It sort of pops like a John Deere! I've got the miss at low, mid, and high idle. It had been running good, but I've had it split to replace a leaking freeze plug and when we started it up today it the problem started. We also replaced the springs in the govenor, and the high RPM is now right, but if you idle it down below 600 or so it dies. I let it idle long enough to get hot. The plugs are Champion D18's and upon inspection are black and sooty. The wire are belden soild and are about 2 years old, plugs were new in July and I haven't run it much. I also replaced the rotor and Dist. cap in July as well.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
