The coil could over heat in a mag and decay it might not get as hot as a bat powered coil, but it can fail. If the engine is running rough, (and not just powering down) it might be the bushings in the mag getting loose. Wiggle the rotor shaft side to side and check for radial play. if any, it needs to be rebuilt (see farmallmagneto.com for answers) JimN
