I"ve restored a Cub and am presently working on a 340U. I"ve found you really don"t know what reference materials you need . . . till you need them. Even the Operator"s Manual - sure, you don"t need instructions on how to operate a tractor, but there have been times I found it handy because they list fluid capacities, tire pressures, tire width positions, photos of features and controls and wire routings that may provide different views than you may find elsewhere. The whole package is expensive, but when you"re starting out with nothing to work from it"s an excellent investment for the future. I"ve particularly found the Parts Manuals" invaluable because they provide blowups of major components - not only handy when you need to order a part (keeps you from having to rely entirely on a counter man) but also can be a huge help when you need to put it all back together again! I have the previous Gaines Book on Classic Tractors: in my opinion it is a "coffee table" book - it has really beautiful photos - but it doesn"t really show how to do anything. I"ve never referred to it after the first time I opened it. To my dismay, I later found my library had a copy. You may wish to try you library first.

I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
