504 were in production between 1961 and 1968. IH listed them as 45 hp and Nebraska tests confirmed what they had to say. It didn't turn out that way on the farm as most 35 hp Farmall 300s would equal or out perform a 504 gasser. The 504 diesel was a great tractor. The gas version used a C-153 non sleeved engine. This was one of the first non sleeved engines IH used. It was also one of the first times IH tried getting hp from rpm's rather than cubic inches. The 300 had 169 cubic inches, 350 had 175 cubic inches and 460 was 221 cubic inches. Everytime any company tried getting tractor hp from rpm's rather than cubic inches, it usually flopped. Personally, I wouldn't pay a lot for a 504 gasser. Engine has by now probably had all the rebuilds it will take without spending big bucks. You can repower it with a 300 or 350 engine.
