distilate or gasoline

I have a 53 SM. The problem is that the hood has an extra hole on the back of the right side. I assume this is for the starter tank. The problem is it doesn't have a starter tank on it. I need to determine if it is an incorrect hood or it is missing the starter tank. How else can I tell if it is distilate or gasoline? thanks -ben
