Jim, I mostly get by with the I&T book, but I agree with you, for the most part the only useful info it gives you is torque specs, clearances, ect. If you look around on e-bay long enough, you may find the old original IH Blue Ribbon books, but unfortunatly, you often need several of them for each model. The engine would be covered in one book, the TA in another, the PTO unit in another, and so on. Your best bet would be to go to your nearest Case-IH dealer and order a brand new service manual. Like the Vet says, for the most part info for one model will work just fine for another of the same vintage. That's OK if you've been around these machines for years. However, for example, if you don't know that a quite a few of the hydraulic pressures differ from somthing small and early like a 706 to somthing big and late like a 1456, you could end up chasing after a problem that doesen't exist.
