From my experience, A starter will explode the armature for two reasons. The first is not common but does happen, and that is thet the solenoid, or starter switch gets stuck and leaves it running without load. They (being a series wound motor will spin gust as fast as they can. With many starter armatures this is still not enough to explode them. (it would go a long way toward that event if it was a 6v on 12v, but still not usually an issue). The other way is if the wrong drive was installed or the drive stuck/jambed in the engage position. The flywheel would thin spin the starter into orbit. Best of luck, JimN
