I work for Canadian Pacific Railway as a Traveling Mechanic. All of our track mantainence equipment uses hydraulic power for work and travel, some times in excess of 5000 psi. So I guess this is my area of expertise.

I use teflon tape, just remember to wrap it the right direction, stay 2 threads up from the bottom of the fitting, use 2 wraps at the most and don't overtighten it.

Also, If you ever have the option of using O-Ring Boss fittings, USE THEM. They are far superior to pipe threads.
