Chad, Ima thinkin along the same lines as Bob n Jim,,,,,,,,, I really wonder if the genny was incorrectly polarized n you messed up the Voltage Regulator??????? If theres a heavy discharge that can be caused by a VR that has a stuck/burned/welded cutout relay. If she was drawing a high discharge current but it stops if you remove the wire on the VR's BAT terminal, sounds like the VR's cutout relay is stuck/burned closed. If the belt is removed and the genny spins like a motor thats another sign the cutout relay is stuck closed DONT LEAVE THE VR CONNECTED IN A HIGH DISCHARGE CONDITION (remove the BAT wire) it runs the battery down n the genny gets hottttttt

You need to stop n regroup n insure first shes wired correct,,,,,,then charge the battery,,,,,, then do as Bob noted n polarize the genny n insure the cutout relays NOT stuck closed. If its stuck, when you attach the BAT wire to the VR she will discharge heavy butttttttt that has to be connected before polarizing if you polarize by flashing the VR' BAT and ARM/GEN terminals together,,,,,,,you may be better off polarizing by (before connecting to VR) you flash touch the wire that goes to BAT on the VR first direct to the gennys ARM post to polarize n then attach to the VR's BAT terminal n hope she dont heavy discharge (stuck cutout relay).

It may be possible to seperate n clean n light file a stuck cutout relay points n make her work again butttttttt once the shiny silver is gone n they are rough n carboned they can go bad again soon

Today's Featured Article - The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac. ... [Read Article]
