Hi Don, 784 should have German 4 cyl D246 engine.
D239 was used in 574,674,684,695. Same engine just slightly larger bore. They do like to blow white/blue smoke until they are warmed up or idling around doing nothing. You can reduce the smoking when idling by not pulling the STOP/START/RUN lever all the way to the top of the RUN position. Leave it down 1/4 to 1/2 inch and this will reduce the fuel going into the injectors and cause less smoking.

Have you owned this tractor all its life? Maybe someone cranked up the HP by adjusting the injection pump and it is being over fuelled.
