SC not Charging Update

After following all the testing tips and guide I got it has came down to needing a new voltage regulator.
Now the hard part spend $70.00 on a new regulator or switch it over to 12 volt. I have an alternator off of an 84 buick, new 12 volt battery and coil so wouldn't need to buy much for the conversion. What do you all think would be best way to go?
