Along those lines, I use peanut butter in the traditional Victor mouse traps. I always put extra peanut butter on the bottom of the bait tang, then push it down (so it smushes against the wood) before I set the trap. This way the sneaky mice can lick the bait off the tang, but then they have to stick their heads between the tang and the wood to get the rest of it. Sooner or later the old noggin bumps the tang, and (as my daughter used to say when she was 4), "SNAP, SNAP, SNAP!"

I'll give the Tootsie Roll idea a try this weekend.
