I know what you mean. I went to the steel place today for a piece of 3.5" ID pipe 1/4" wall, 4" long, they wanted $47, $47 for a 4 lbs piece of steel. I called all the hydraulic places around here, all the construction companies, ,boiler repair, plumbing supply... The boiler place had 4" ID 4" long for $16, other then that nothing.. I sifted through my older starters for the motor cases, no luck, I gave up on the clean looking fix and made a spacer for the crossbrace with some c channel and boxed it in, doesnt look too horrible... Total cost, about $2 in welding rods... Total aggravation... PRICELESS...
