I'm a little confused when you say you haven't found where the battery lead goes? Here is a basic hookup that should give you spark. Reg F to gen F (field) Reg A to gen A (armature) Reg B to (hot when on post) switch. Coil + to (hot when on post) switch Coil - to points If you wire it like this and get a short then the gen, reg,or switch has an internal short. Or something else is wired wrong.
