We have an Allison plant about 20 miles from me. When they closed the GM assembly plant just outside of Baltimore a lot of the workers accepted jobs here. I had heard they were going to build transmissions for Dodge trucks and for UPS trucks. I think that fell through for some reason. The 1600hp EMD engine was two cycle too. Detroit Diesel came out with a 4 cycle engine in 1999. I thought those Freightliners used Cummins diesel's. EMD engines were used locomotives only they had 16 cylinders. The V8 engine that we had were used in tug boats too, but they used 2 of them. Hal PS: The turbo charger on that engine sounded like a jet plane taking off. Our dynamometer weighed 60 tons and the M1 weighed about the same and that engine would reach 45 mph without any effort. I have a picture of the old dynamometer known as the M7 and it had 2 500hp Ford engines. If you want to see a picture email me. Bompchomp@aol.com
