This is a very common problem. There is a cast aluminum plate on the bottom of the oil pump that will warp and let the oil leat out of the pump and prevent it from building pressure. Sometimes they can be milled flat again, or dressed on a piece of sandpaper taped to a sheet of plate glass. The gasket under the cover set the clearance between the gears and the plate, so the thickness it critical; use a factory gasket(s). A new cover is around $80.00. Also, worn main bearings or camshaft journals can cause low oil pressure, but I'd try the pump first. It is easy to do, just drop the pan and the pump is held in by two bolts on the side of the block with a thin metal plate bent around them to lock them in.
