I grew up in the cab of a 3588, ours was never dualled and worked great. Dad bought it new in '79 and we kept it until '90(stupid move on our part). In that timeframe we put 10+K. hours on it and replaced the clutch twice, the T/A once, and some other minor items like driveshafts, hydaulic pumps etc. Like someone else said, they were never intended to be turned up with duals, if they were they had final drive and front axle issues(too much power with too much traction). Ours was used year around for just about everything. It was different to drive but it was never akward in anything it was used for. I'd take a 2+2 any day over the MFWD's for the simple fact that there is no need to add ballast to the frontend no matter how heavy the load on the 3pt. and it would still be able to turn (try carrying a 12 row semi-mounted planter and be able to turn with it down W/O adding weights to the frontend!).
